Diving in Cenotes

The word cenote knows his origin in the Mayan word “Dzonot”, which means holy well. These holy cenotes weren’t only used as wells, but at the same time they were the entrances to the important holy underworld of the Mayan people. About 40 million years ago, the Yucatan Peninsula consisted of coral reefs. Nowadays the peninsula is an enormous platform of limestone. Thousands of rivers are flowing under the limestone platform. The ice age is responsible for the changes in the sea level, which caused the peninsula to come gradually out of the water. These circumstances created the cenotes by the centuries. If you go diving in Mexico, we advise you not to skip the adventure of diving in the cenotes. Diving in cenotes has a special diving-technique. Your Dive master will explain the rules at the site.
